On Wednesday in Bogotá, Columbia the supreme court reinstated the conviction of Escobar for plotting the 1989 assignation of presidential candidate Louis Carlos Galan. Galan was known for being a strong advocate against the drug cartel. Escobar hired hit men to kill Galan. Escobar was a drug kingpin who was trying to force Columbia’s leaders to not extradite drug lords’ back to the United States for trial. Galan was the front runner in the election and promised to fight the was on drugs through extradition which is why Escobar had him killed, Galan’s family is happy with the results but feel as if there are a lot of other corrupt politicians involved who were not held accountable.
